Thread veins are very small veins that are most commonly visible on the face, nose cheeks, chin and chest. Thread veins occur when the vein dilates and become large enough to be visible through the skin. Thread veins, or broken capillaries are formed by the dilation of a small group of blood vessels located close to the surface of the skin. They look like purple red veins that stretch like a web under the skin.
What causes thread veins?
Thread veins are often caused by extreme changes in temperature caused by over exposure to cold winds, or the hot sun.
Hormones can also play a role. The hormonal changes that can occur during pregnancy, the menopause, or whist taking birth control pills, all can cause red facial veins to develop.
During pregnancy, besides the increase in hormone levels, there also is a great increase in the volume of blood in the body that can cause veins to enlarge.
Thread veins can sometimes be a sign of Rosacea, a skin condition, or can result from overuse of steroid creams. Other causes include Diabetes, Exfoliation with hash products.
How does it work?
A very small needle is rested along the vessel. A heat sensation is felt as the flow of the blood in the capillary is blocked by coagulating a small segment and forming an invisible clot.
This will cause a gradual reduction in the appearance of the capillary.
